CHANEL VERT
200cm x 200cm - Mixed media on French linen
At the end of 2018/19, Karl Largefel, the late creative director of Chanel invited Kongo to his personal studio at 17bis Quai Voltaire to collaborate on works honoring ancient Egyptian culture. Here, the collection “Quai Voltaire” was born, marking the handshake of two greats in the art world. The work "Chanel Vert" is one of the few remaining masterpieces in this collection and was sent back to Vietnam by the artist. Most of the other works are kept by Kongo to commemorate the fateful meeting of the two artists.
“Chanel Vert” is a pun on Cyril Kongo's style, but still exudes Chanel's chic and trendy style. Ancient Egyptian symbols are also cleverly incorporated into the painting symbolizing immortality, as if to honor the legacy left by Karl Lagerfeld and affirm once again he will live forever in our hearts.
