Flamenco Sketh
180cm x 150cm – Mixed media on Chevron linen, 2018
"Flamenco Sketh" is presented on rare Linen fabric, woven by "chevon" technique from raw, undyed flax fibers to keep its pristine beauty. "Chevron" originated in the South of France in the middle of the 19th century and so far this type of loom has no longer existed. On a rustic Linen background, artist Kongo drew inspiration from his favorite jazz song "Flamenco Sketches" to paint the art work. This is also a classic composition by Miles Davis - the great master of the jazz world. "Flamenco Sketches"" is described as a sketch using only 5 modes for the whole piece and combining a variety of instruments such as trumpet, piano, saxophone, drums. Unlike previous works, Cyril Kongo plays on the canvas with free-flowing calligraphy and an improvised array of colors like the spirit of jazz in "Flamenco Sketh" . The piece is as free, peaceful, and hopeful as the music itself, and also a tribute to jazz legend Miles Davis.
