The series “Woman” was written by Hom Nguyen specifically for Vietnamese art lovers. The reason he chose this topic was because his composing style as well as his complicated inner life were most affected during his childhood when he lived with his mother. Hom Nguyen's mother immigrated to France in the 70s. Although far from her hometown, Ms. Lan always remembers that land and she shared this pain with Hom. She longed to return to Hanoi and tell Hom about the memories, the scents, the landscapes, the faces… in that land. That is also why it is no coincidence that the faces painted by the artist evoke Asian elegance.
This is also the reason that Hom Nguyen put in the Woman series a sound reminiscent of memories, a missing piece of memory that he is constantly searching for, amidst faces sketched as the path to a life. another that he has never touched. As he explained in an interview, that “it is born instinctively, it comes from difficult childhood memories in a child’s head.” The Asian delicate of Mrs. Lan was a great inspiration for Hom Nguyen in the Woman series. Woman is a voice about existence, origin, balance in life…the values that his mother passed on to him.
